One of the primary themes of the piece is to bridge-the-gap between traditional art and media to the digital realm. This original artwork is a composition incorporating various other independent elements, objects, and paintings created by Marc from 2006 to 2008. The young lady in A Digital Canvas Workshop is a digital painting of Pixel Brite Creations co-founder Adriana Bridger created from a reference photo taken on her engagement day (Adriana's Engagement). In the work, Adriana represents digital art, a work in progress (as her painting was incomplete), as well as the welcoming smile of Pixel Brite Creations. Simon in Snow is another digital painting included on the right side canvas which is composed of a young boy playing wiffle-ball in the snow. The center Sea Dock Scene, sketch pad, pen-tablet, LEDs, pencil, processor, and other elements were created as independent works prior to being assembled into the final Digital Canvas Workshop artwork.
Creation
A Digital Canvas Workshop relied on Photoshop and Illustrator for the majority of the elements in the painting. Exceptions include Simon in Snow, Adriana's Engagement, and small portions of the Sea Dock Scene which were created in Painter 9. The final artwork consists of over 3000 Photoshop layers.
The primary software used for creating A Digital Canvas Workshop:
- Adobe® Illustrator
- Adobe® Photoshop
- Corel® Painter
First and Last
The first element created in the scene was the Digital Gum Eraser which closely mimics a General’s brand Gum Eraser. The last piece created was the Tube of Pixel Brite Paint. The paint tube label incorporated the Red, Green, and Blue paint blobs; which are a signature element from the PixelBrite.com® logo depicting the RGB color space. The "digital" paint stream exiting the tube is in all three colors (RGB) along with white which represents the three colors combined.
Web Page
The work has its own web page that can be viewed here: A Digital Canvas Workshop.
Purpose
A Digital Canvas Workshop was primarily created as a piece to be used for the launch of PixelBrite.com® and has been incorporated into the website along with portions of another Pixel Brite Creation called The Box. These two combined are intended to inspire curiosity about our services and your projects: what’s possible?, what’s in the box?, opening the box of imagination, letting the art out, and of course, thinking outside-the-box. The PixelBrite.com® website theme incorporating A Digital Canvas Workshop has three elements "falling out" and/or protruding beyond the original boundaries of the artwork.
